What To Expect At A Traditional Spa : Guru’s Nest Abuja.

February 13, 2020 Uncategorized
This spa day was an exciting one for me, this wasn’t my first time at a traditional spa so I had an idea about some of the pampering I was going to experience .

Reception Area

LOCATION Guru’s nest is a homely, cozy traditional spa located at No.8 Berbera Street, wuse Zone 6, Abuja, Nigeria.

They use organic homemade ingredients, to offer selfcare services mostly done by women on other women (kayan mata). but not the type used to tie men down.

I was offered their jade package at the cost of 20,000 Naira, which included body steaming, Halawa waxing, khalta-kurkum facial, dilke scrub, canwood polish (full body polish) and Yoni steam.

NOTE: I had to be unclad for this session and I was given disposable panties, hair net and clean towels.

I was made to sit in a ziplock steam bag for 30 minutes more or less. Treatment is done at a temperature just high enough to remain comfortable and is quite relieving.

Body steaming is said to improve circulation, clear skin impurities, relieve tension and reduce stress.

Next is the Halawa wax, which had sugar and lemon as major ingredients to wax my legs. This might be very painful for people with low tolerance to pain, I was told in most cases, people would usually scream or weep when waxing but I only kept flinching a little throughout the process.(as per hard girl, Lol). In my opinion, compared to the regular waxing this is not as harsh, it was done gently and not all at once so I felt the pain a little less than I anticipated.

FACIAL (Khalta-kurkum)

The main ingredient used during this facial was Khalta and Tumeric which is said to be very good for treating dark spots, acne and other scars because of it’s anti-inflammatory qualities that help to target the pores. My Face was Cleansed, Scrubbed, then a sheet mask was used afterward.

I was honestly scared of this part of the session because I have acne-prone skin and wasn’t sure how my face would react after the facials, but one week later, I can say it actually helped open my pores more and reduced whiteheads and dark spot as promised.

Next was the dilke scrub. a mixture of starch and essential oils applied on my body and left to dry before washing off with an exfoliating sponge, the purpose of this is to remove dead cells, prevent sunburn amongst other benefits. The camwood body polish is a mixture that has camwood and essential oils that help in improving skin brightening and natural glow. it is usually left to dry properly for roughly 30 minutes before rinsing off.

Afterwards, I had my bath with black soap (for my face) and body soap made by Gurus Nest which I especially loved.

The last and most exciting part of it all was the vagina steam. I was excited the moment i saw it on the menu because i have heard so much about yoni steaming and have always wanted to experience it.

The Vagina steaming was done by placing burning herbs beneath a hollow chair I was sitting on naked, so my vagina was directly above the burning steaming herbs which is said to cleanse the vagina, improve menstrual cycle, detoxify the body, reduce cramps, tighten the vagina and makes sex more pleasant amongst other things.
